Black Rhino 'Diceros bicornis'
Black Rhino 'Diceros bicornis'
Inspired by the debates on how to stop poaching of game for ivory and horn, this contemporary hanging was hand-woven on a digital jacquard loom. As with each of these unique pieces of artwork, the starting point was original drawings and textures from mark-making.
This bold textile piece is woven in cotton, silk and silk floss. A special inlay technique has been used to include the pink silk floss, which originates from Thai silk cloth.
The piece measures approximately 80cm wide by 70.5cm long. There is a tube woven into the top and a rod feeds through this, which can be easily supported on the wall with just two tacks. (Rod and tacks not included).
