Scape
Scape
‘The Cornish landscape always evokes an emotional response in me. The sun dazzling off the water, the splash of the sea, the salty breeze on my face, the call of the gulls. In ‘Scapes’, I’m responding to these sensations, escaping into my imagination, conjuring a landscape’.
The beaches connect to the moors. Sand from the beaches of Cornwall built the walls of the miners’ cottages on the hills up above. The ground deposits from the mines were spread on the sands. An interconnected cycle.
This large contemporary hanging measures 75 x 160cm and is handwoven in tencel, linen, rayon floss and lurex and cotton. The artwork has been created without buying new fibres and yarn sources include the repurposing of post-industrial waste.
